Affiliate disclosure
Last updated: June 2026
We want to be upfront about how The Nook Japan makes money, because trust is the whole point of this site. The short version: some links are affiliate links, you always book directly with the provider, and we never handle your booking or take your payment.
What an affiliate link is
Some outbound links — mainly to places to stay, experiences, and transport — are affiliate links. If you click one and then book on that provider's site, we may earn a small commission. It costs you nothing extra — the price is the same as going there directly.
How we mark them
We disclose affiliate links wherever they appear: a one-line note at the top of articles that contain them, and a label on the recommendation cards themselves. Official, informational links (opening hours, official tourism pages, posted onsen notices) are notaffiliate links — they're there to back up the facts, and we earn nothing from them.
You book — not us
The Nook Japanis an information and suggestions site, not a travel agent. We don't make reservations, arrange travel, or take payment for stays, transport, or activities. When you decide to book, you do it yourself, directly with the hotel, ryokan, or booking platform — your contract is with them, not with us.
We only recommend what fits
We don't list everything that pays a commission. We recommend places and services that genuinely suit a family trip in this region — the same ones we'd point a friend to. A commission never buys a recommendation.
